MOHAWK NATION COUNCIL OF CHIEFS

November 22, 2004
PRESS
RELEASE
The Mohawk Nation Council of Chiefs have heard the People who
have voiced that more time is needed for the People to make a reasoned decision
concerning the negotiated Ahkwesahsne land claim settlement.
Therefore, the MNCC will not be following the cut-off date of the tribal
councils’ referendums.
Instead, the Mohawk Nation Council of Chiefs is prepared to
take as much time as needed to allow the people to understand the pros and cons
of the negotiated settlement and the possible court settlement of the
Ahkwesahsne land claim.
On Saturday November 27th the Mohawk Nation
Council of Chiefs will hold a meeting at the Mohawk Nation Longhouse from 10:00
am to 12:00. At this meeting the
Clans are expected to report back on how the meetings are going and what may be
needed for the People to come to a reasoned decision.
For more information contact: Barbara Gray at the Mohawk
Nation Office 358-3381.
